At Roseberry Primary and Nursery School, we value Art and Design as an integral part of our curriculum. We aim to offer enrichment opportunities and develop all children’s skills and critical abilities as well as an understanding of their own and others’ cultural heritages through the study of a diverse range of artists, including local artists where possible. We aim to inspire and challenge children by providing opportunities for children to express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas through effective teaching and considered sequences of lessons and experiences. We aim to equip children with the knowledge, vocabulary and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they will be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They will also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of their nation and local area.
