Role – Vice Chair
Why I became a governor: I am a parent governor, with two children at the school, who has lived in the area for most of my life and attended Roseberry Comprehensive. I wanted to volunteer as a governor to have a more active part in my own kids’ education and to help improve the lives of all children in the local area.
Special Interests: I am the SEN link governor, which I was really keen to do as I have a real passion for inclusion. I also monitor early reading in school. Outside of school I also volunteer on the local residents association and at my daughters’ gymnastics academy. Hobbies – with two young girls and a full time job there isn’t much spare time but I enjoy walks with the family and visiting theme parks!
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Maths and Accounting, chartered accountant and chartered tax adviser.
Experience: I have lived in the area most of my life, attending Roseberry Comp. I worked in a retail environment while doing my A levels and degree (good old Woolies), then have since worked in a large accountancy practice in Newcastle.
Skills: My career means I am strong in finance, while also being very organised and having a lot of project management experience, as well as having spent a lot of time coaching and developing people.
I’m also a quick learner and am good at retaining information, which has been key on the steep learning curve that is governance!
Possible training need: Further understanding of SEN, curriculum content, safeguarding.
